Happy New Year! (a little late, huh?) Jeez….two weeks have passed and I haven’t even written an entry. Well, it’s been busy to say the least. Let’s see if I can sum it up well:
Christmas: Met Jen and her family over her house on Christmas Eve. It was actually snowing this year! Got to wake up at the crack of dawn on Chrstmas morning and open presents with the rest of the clan. I actually got some cool gifts from Jen’s fam: a scarf, the Lemony Snickett Unauthorized Autobiography, some candles….And then Jen got me the real goodies: a reversible down vest, a cashemere sweater and matching shirt from Banana, a gig bag for my guitar, a nice menorah for next year, and a few other goodies. After breakfast, it was down to my house where we spent Christmas day, exchanged gifts with my parents and my brother and ate a huge dinner complete with crabcakes, stuffed flounder, shrimp and a bunch of other great stuff that I cannot remember considering it was almost a month ago! We wrapped up the night by going to check out “Gangs of New York” which was like “The Warriors” in the 1800’s. As if that were not all enough, we cruised into the Bronx on Saturday to have Christmas Part III with Jen’s mom and her family. There we again ate tons and watched the Lord of the Rings with Jen’s little cousins. Good times….
New Years: We headed down to Holly and Morgan’s for New Years Eve along with RJ, Bill and Lori, Slerm and Kris. Amazing time in a great house, complete with deep fried turkey. Loved it. Even found out that I knew Holly’s brother Dave in college. Weird stuff.
Anyway….went through a week of the post holiday blahhs….Spent a full week at work chasing my tail after some moron from another consulting firm made a major screwup. Then had to battle the HR gods regarding a tuition reimbursement thing. By the weekend, we got to have a little fun, as Jen and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary on January 6th. Since we have been missing one of our favorite restaurants, Lebanese Taverna, that Saturday, I decided to hook up a traditional Lebanese meal, cooked up by yours truly. I made babaghanoush, tabouli, hummus, fresh pita bread and schwarma. Dinner was complete with floor seating and arabic music. All in all, it was awesome. Hard to believe it was a year already. Here’s what I was thinking after our first date.
We went to check out Robert Randolph and the Family Band at Bowery Ballroom on Friday night and followed that up with some late night eats at 7A. Saturday, Jen and I rolled down to Chelsea Piers for my Christmas Party (yes….3 weeks after Christmas). It was on the Spirit of the Hudson, and we came about two seconds shy of missing the boat entirely, but we made it. The windows were so foggy you couldn’t see the city, and it was slightly cold, but the food was good, the wine was free-flowing, and people eventually started dancing up a storm. Overall it was a good time. I rolled back to work yesterday, only to start feeling yucky by midday. Last night, I woke up at like 2:30 with mega-sore throat and totally dehydrated. By this morning, I could barely speak, so I called out and stayed in drinking juice and water all day. I’m starting to feel a bit better, although not quite myself. I just watched “Training Day” and I am fading fast. Time for bed, methinks.
