Ok…so last night I took a brutally long drive home from DC in order to beat the snow this morning. Literally, as soon as I walked in, Killah Dave called to announce plans to hit the Village Vanguard. I called a taxi to get me to the Boken path, and though they said it would take ten minutes, the horn was honking the second I put my toothbrush in my mouth. Darting outside, I had to deal with the cabbie and his 16 year old daughter in the front seat talk about everything from her college choices to why she cannot have her own car. So…we made it to the Vanguard and caught the Jeff Watts Quintet. These guys were awesome, and the sax player had hair to dye for. Kind of like Macy Gray’s. After that, we were thinking of hitting Terra Blues, but it was too cold, so we hit some place called the Chow Bar that had really good fried shrimp crisps and big tall Hefe-Weizens. All in all, a great night.
Today was all about shopping and getting the house in order….ahhh…I love being home. The only thing that sucks is that there is something wrong with my 12-string that I got fixed over the summer after I smashed it in my hasty move. I think I need to get someone to take a look at it. (sigh)
Anyway…tonight, Dave and I are going to check out the Jayhawks at the Bowery Ballroom, possibly followed by Ulu’s midnight appearance at the Knitting Factory. All this and I expect to be up early….hmmm…tomorrow is going to be rough.
Oh yeah….This is Paul O’Neil from the New York Yankees. How’d you like to hit a home run for safety? 😉
