So…today started with some sad news. Apparently, Joe Strummer was found dead last night. Only 50 years old. In his honor, I cranked out “The Clash” and “London Calling” for the ride up to Connecticut. It is amazing how great their music was, and how many artists it touched. You cannot listen to any of the modern punk bands without hearing that influence; everyone from Jets to Brazil to Saves the Day (who do a great cover of “Clash City Rockers” btw) has the vibe going on. What is also amazing is how great Joe was when he went out on his own. One of my favorite films from High School was Permanent Record, with Keanu Reeves. Joe Strummer did not only the entire movie score, but he also recorded some songs for the soundtrack, including “Trash City” and “Baby the Trans”, which were un-believeable. Luckily, I’ve still got that puppy on CD, despite the fact that both the movie and soundtrack are out of print. I think later I’ll jam out to “Sandanista”. I’ll miss you Joe.
