Thanks to JJ Nukes for this heartbreaking update:
“Vanishing Wetlands of the Musical Sort Wetlands, a TriBeCa club best known as ground zero for post-Grateful Dead jam bands, will close in September because the building that houses it is being sold.” You can read the entire article on the closing of Wetlands, here.
I will be very sad to see the club close. I remember going there for my first time when I turned eighteen after my senior year of high school. The act that night was Blues Traveler. I then started going regularly on Tuesday nights for a while. Since then, I’ve seen a ton of other great bands there, including the great Blind Melon, Moe, Robert Walter, Ulu, and the now-nectar Robert Randolph. Definitely the best music club in the city.
Let’s hope they don’t close Irving.
