There is no doubt that today, we have all witnessed one of the most significant events of our lifetime, if not all of Western Civilization as we know it. I arrived at work today in Arlington, VA to learn that two planes had just hit the Trade Center, where my father works. After finding that I could not get through on the telephone to a single relative, I heard a huge blast, and racing out to the roof of our building, we saw the explosion at the Pentagon. We raced out of the building and waited outside as hellicopters and fighter planes took to the air; I swear that this seemed more like a scene from Kosovo or somewhere else across the world. Returning to my hotel, I tried calling just about everyone I knew, to no avail, only to hear that my father had escaped the building and made it two blocks away before the second plane had hit his building. Strangely enough, even then my pulse did not lower very much afterwards, and still hasn’t. I wonder what will happen tomorrow. I wonder how I will get home. I wonder iflife as we knew it in this country will ever return.
I consider myself to be just about the luckiest person on earth right now. I wish the best for you and yours; If I haven’t spoken with you…please let me know if you are ok.
